People worshiping Jesus at birth come from two groups: shepherds and wise men. The shepherds were told by angels in the fields that the Savior had been born and were invited to Bethlehem to see the child. They went, found Jesus with Mary and Joseph, and bowed in worship, praising God for what they had seen. The wise men, travelers from the East, followed a bright star to Jesus’ home, where they reverently worshiped him and gave gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—acknowledging his kingly and Messianic role. These two responses—humble adoration by common workers and reverent homage by learned visitors—show the different ways people recognized and worshiped Jesus at his birth. Angels announced the birth and guided the shepherds, while the Magi sought and worshiped him for who he was.
